Welcome to the simulation and innovation libguide! I developed this guide with the intention of providing information and resourced for both foundational and advanced concepts regarding simulation and innovative educational methods. I will be adding to the guide (advanced concepts and emerging technology tabs are currently in-work) and expanding it over the next few months.
The 'current news and updates' tab is a blog where the innovations team will be posting information related to the innovations course and simulation at Frontier. We will be answering questions we receive, detailing progress and feedback related to the course, and discussing simulation news and ideas. You can contact us using the email email@example.com. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there is information you would like covered or added to the guide or discussed in the blog!
The Gamification of Learning and Instruction
Praise for The Gamification of Learning and Instruction "Kapp argues convincingly that gamification is not just about adding points, levels and badges to an eLearning program, but about fundamentally rethinking learning design. He has put together a brilliant primer for learning professionals on how to gamify learning, packed with useful advice and examples." --ANDERS GRONSTEDT, president, Gronstedt Group
The Comprehensive Textbook of Healthcare Simulation
The Comprehensive Textbook of Healthcare Simulation is a cohesive, single-source reference on all aspects of simulation in medical education and evaluation. It covers the use of simulation in training in each specialty and is aimed at healthcare educators and administrators who are developing their own simulation centers or programs and professional organizations looking to incorporate the technology into their credentialing process. For those already involved in simulation, the book will serve as a state-of-the-art reference that helps them increase their knowledge base, expand their simulation program's capabilities, and attract new, additional target learners. Features: * Written and edited by pioneers and experts in healthcare simulation * Personal memoirs from simulation pioneers * Each medical specialty covered * Guidance on teaching in the simulated environment * Up-to-date information on current techniques and technologies * Tips from "insiders" on funding, development, accreditation, and marketing of simulation centers * Floor plans of simulation centers from across the United States * Comprehensive glossary of terminology
Simulation in Nursing Education
The second edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation is a wide reaching text presenting a complete range of issues and advances in simulation. Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation provides both a foundation for the novice and advanced strategies for the seasoned simulation educator. Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation approaches the challenges and opportunities of simulation by updating the work of the first edition to reflect the most pressing issues and innovations in simulation. Two new chapters address the art of debriefing and integrating patient safety competencies into clinical simulations. Another new chapter describes how the Quality in Safety for Education in Nursing (QSEN) competencies can be integrated into clinical simulation scenarios. Although this is a second edition, the book is still considered a foundational one, providing core, essential content to those educators who are just beginning their journey using clinical simulations whether they are in an academic setting or a clinical institution. The first edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation altered the teaching and learning environment of nursing. The second edition is an essential resource for every nurse educator at every level of nursing education.
Objective Structured Clinical Examinations
Objective structured clinical examinations/exercises (OSCEs) using standardized patients (SPs) are an efficient means of surveying a diverse range of ability at any point along the continuum of medical education. An OSCE station can address multiple competency assessments across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education. Nevertheless, organizing and enacting OSCEs is a major undertaking and, as with most other educational projects, collaborating within and across specialties and disciplines only enriches the process. The production of an effective OSCE program requires strong leaders committed to the benefits of such assessments, as well as many individuals to plan, prepare, and implement the program. To address the need for general guidelines of best practice and consistent organizational stratagem, Objective Structured Clinicl Exams is a comprehensive how-to manual for OSCE implementation. It contains an overview of and criteria for best practice, a review of relevant literature, insight into the program's influence throughout the healthcare system, and techniques for fine-tuning existing programs. Accompanying charts, graphs and sample forms are included to make this book the single resource for any educator interested in creating or improving a standardized patient program.
Established in 2004 by professionals using simulation for education, testing, and research in health care, SSH membership includes physicians, nurses, allied health and paramedical personnel, researchers, educators and developers from around the globe. SSH fosters the improvement and application of simulation–based modalities such as human patient simulators, virtual reality, standardized patients and task trainers.
Recognizing that simulation represents a paradigm shift in health care education, SSH promotes improvements in simulation technology, educational methods, practitioner assessment, and patient safety that promote better patient care and can improve patient outcome.
Promoting best practices in the application of SP methodology for education, assessment and research
Fostering the dissemination of research and scholarship in the field of SP methodology
Advancing the professional knowledge and skills of its members
Transforming professional performance through the power of human interaction.
